Doug’s CT Story

Our Stories

Doug Penrice came to the Emergency Department at Georgetown Hospital after experiencing sudden and severe internal bleeding. He didn’t know what was happening – he only knew that he needed help fast…

One of the first things his care team did was to send Doug for a CT scan. Timely access to this technology, so close to home, likely saved his life.

The CT scanner helps to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions, from trauma injuries to complex diseases. This essential piece of technology provides images that help our radiologists and physicians make life-saving decisions.

For Doug, quick access to a CT scan at his community hospital gave his healthcare team a clear picture of what was going on inside his body. It helped them make quick decisions about his treatment, and ultimately, it likely saved him from needing major surgery.

Doug was stabilized and went on to have a procedure to stop his internal bleeding. He has since made a full recovery. But Doug often thinks about how differently things could have gone without that CT scan.

“That technology, and the team who used it, played a huge role in saving my life”, Doug said. “Now, Georgetown Hospital needs a new CT scanner to continue delivering that same level of care for others in our community. I hope you’ll consider giving. Your donation will help make sure more people like me get the answers and the care they need, right when it matters most.”

Like Doug, many other patients and their families will be counting on a CT scan to guide their diagnosis and treatment in the days ahead. Having this crucial resource on hand, close to home, is incredibly important.

For patients like Doug Penrice, a CT scanner is more than just a piece of equipment – it is a lifeline. CT scanners provide indispensable imaging that helps patients rapidly receive the assessment and treatment they need, so they can get back to their lives and to the people who love them.
